So due to some bad management over the years of the forums and the new forum software coming out we are looking to reset and reinstall our forums.

 

With this we will lose all of our content and start afresh with some of the more important threads being pulled over to keep, we will also be archiving the old forum so it will be accessible to everyone as a read only forum should anyone want to access pictures, threads ect from the old forums.

 

Ill be making the change tomorrow night if all goes to plan if not then it will be postponed, I cannot copy old threads directly from the old site so they will need re-making so if anyone wishes to help me with this then please let me know on teamspeak or pm me directly.

I might be able to do some of this without losing the content, but if it breaks then ill restore content and do a fresh install and archive the old forum.

Should be able to salvage it. I have just run the update on this version which means if the database is fixable then we can just archive the crappy posts and keep the setup.

Sadly no, its more that when I moved our forum in 2014 there was some data loss when the box it was on died. I restored the tables manually and some of the plugins, hooks and other features still had tables that I couldn't rebuild so they error in the admincp. I have removed most the addons and reinstalled them now after re-purchasing support/download access to them as it was all setup so long ago.

Support for MySQL.....from Oracle?

 

Have you considered Percona? Like for like essentially, and InnoDB is directly compatible with Percona's XtraDB tables.

Plus, they have an estensive toolkit: https://www.percona....percona-toolkit

 

Also, Percona allows you to active/active cluster for HA. Avoiding a single point of failure for anyone database.

 

Allows you to do funky stuff like dump databases, encrypted, offsite over 443 and ship the binary too if needed.

MySQL is a dying database as everyone has jumped ship after Oracle bought MySQL.

 

Just thoughts moving forward. I care not for how it's currently set up, but if it helps avoid issues had in the past then
